Whisky The GLENLIVET XXV aged 25 years.
"The Glenlivet XXV is the perfect tribute to the
skill and judgement of the craftsmen involved in making this special
whisky. The original new spirit character, fruity and floral, has been
faithfully retained during years of careful maturation. The final finish
in rare ex-sherry butts yields a sublime, intense whisky of powerful
yet elegant character."

One of the Tales of The Glenlivet. : the Captain.
Bill Smith Grant became the proprietor of The Glenlivet Distillery in 1921 and remained head of the company until his death in 1975.
Known to everyone as “The Captain” – the rank he achieved in World War I, in which he was twice wounded and awarded the Military Cross – he was the great-grandson of George Smith, founder of the distillery.
An imposing, authoritative figure, often to be seen in a kilt, The Captain dominated the scene for more than 50 years, closely monitoring every aspect of production. His word was law and his judgement seldom wrong.
His idiosyncratic ways were legendary. For example, he rarely nosed the whisky in the warehouse but would pour a little on to his hands, rub them together and sniff. If a copper still needed replacing, he would insist that some part of the old be incorporated into the new to maintain quality.
Almost as close to his heart as The Glenlivet, which he pronounced “Glen-leave-it”, were his prize-winning Aberdeen Angus bulls and other Highland cattle. Another passion was horse-racing and there were regular visits to courses like Ascot and Goodwood.
When the Second World War began, too old to serve at the front, Bill Smith Grant switched services and signed up as a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. But to those at the distillery he would always be “The Captain”. There was mutual regard and affection.
“Give the men a dram,” he would say, “it’s like a sweetie to a bairn.”
