The Distillery...

The Royal Burgh of Elgin in Morayshire is known as "the Whisky Capital of the World". At he heart of the capital are the offices, shop and warehouses of Messrs. Gordon & MacPhail, who were etablished in 1895 - the very epicentre of the world of malt whisky.

Elgin's prominence as a whisky centre is not surprising, given the town's proximity to Speyside, where nearly 70% of the world's malt whisky is produced.

Elgin itself lies on the banks of the river Lossie, and the damp climate makes it ideal for maturing whisky. Its position as the market town for the Laich o' Moray, known as "the Granary of the North" and once the richest barley producing region in Scotland, all combine to make it pre-eminent.
